  20. The following files are included in the evaluation
  21. version of WavSorter:

  23.     wseval.exe
  24.     register.exe
  25.     ws.hlp
  26.     launch.wav

  29.     readme.txt (this file)
  30.     cmdialog.vbx
  31.     mci.vbx

  34. If any files are missing, please notify the sysop of
  35. the BBS from which you obtained the zipped file, or

  40. IMPORTANT NOTES
  41.  
  42.  
  43. 1. Feel free to upload WavSorter to your favorite BBS's
  44.    (in fact, I hope you will). However, please be sure
  45.    to include all the files listed above so that people
  46.    who download WavSorter can use it to its fullest
  47.    capabilities.
  48.  
  49. 2. If you do upload WavSorter, please do not include your
  50.    "default.ini" file. This file is created the first time
  51.    you use WavSorter and is unique to your preferences.
  52.  
  53. 3. ERRATA: In the "About Folder" help popup, the first
  54.    sentence describing an open gray folder should read:
  55.    
  56.     "This is a folder that isn't set up, when you're
  57.     dragging a directory name from the directory list box
  58.     while holding down the SHIFT key."
  59.  
  60. 4. WavSorter includes a feature called Magic Target Help
  61.    which allows you to easily call up information and help
  62.    on objects and menu items by clicking on them when Magic
  63.    Target Help is turned on. Not all objects in Visual Basic
  64.    respond to clicking, however, so while almost all objects
  65.    in WavSorter's main window respond to Magic Target Help,
  66.    there are a few which do not.

  68. 5. If you would like to use the "jumps" (green text) in the
  69.    Magic Target Help popup windows, turn on Help by choosing
  70.    the Contents item on the Help Menu before turning on
  71.    Magic Target Help (this is optional and is only necessary
  72.    if you want to use the "jumps").
  73.  
  74. 6. When WavSorter plays sound effects, it expects to find
  75.    the appropriate sound file in your WavSorter working
  76.    directory (the one to which you've copied the WavSorter
  77.    files during installation). For this reason, do not rename
  78.    or move the files "splash.wav" and "launch.wav" or you
  79.    will not be able to use the default sounds; only the
  80.    custom sounds which you assign.

  82. 7. Directories, files, and folders all drag and drop. If
  83.    you're not sure whether or not an object in the main
  84.    window responds to drag and drop, drag something over
  85.    it and watch the OpLight for information.
  86.  
  87. 8. If you want to get started right away, there's an item on
  88.    the Help Menu called "Getting Started" which will provide
  89.    you with the minimum information necessary to begin using
  90.    WavSorter.
  91.  
  92. 9. The first time you run WavSorter and save your
  93.    configuration, the following lines will be added to
  94.    your win.ini file:
  95.  
  96.     [ShepherdSoftware]
  97.     WSConfigName=default.ini
  98.  
  99.    This is the only addition WavSorter makes to win.ini.
  100.    All of your preferences are saved in the "default.ini"
  101.    file, which is stored in your WavSorter directory.

  104. INSTALLATION
  105.  
  106. You install WavSorter by doing the following:
  107.  
  108. 1. Create a directory for WavSorter and name it something
  109.    appropriate like "wavsortr", or whatever name you want.
  110.  
  111. 2. Copy or move the following files to your WavSorter
  112.    directory:
  113.  
  114.     wseval.exe
  115.     register.exe
  116.     ws.hlp
  117.     launch.wav
  118.     splash.wav
  119.     file_id.diz
  120.     readme.txt
  121.  
  122. 3. Copy or move the following files to your Windows "system"
  123.    directory (e.g., c:\windows\system):
  124.  
  125.     cmdialog.vbx
  126.     mci.vbx
  127.     threed.vbx
  128.  
  129. **Note that these .vbx files are included in MicroSoft Visual
  130.   Basic 2.0, both the Standard and Professional editions.
  131.   If you have either of these programs, you already have
  132.   copies of those .vbx's on your computer. Since MicroSoft
  133.   has been known to "slipstream" newer versions of its
  134.   programs without telling anyone, it is always good
  135.   practice to compare the attributes of the .vbx's included
  136.   in WavSorter with the attributes of the same .vbx's you
  137.   already have on your system so you won't overwrite a
  138.   newer version of the .vbx. This step is, of course,
  139.   optional and doesn't affect WavSorter in any way but it's
  140.   still a good idea to do it.

  142. 4. Create a group and/or program item for WavSorter in
  143.    Program Manager (or your favorite Program Manager
  144.    substitute, if you use one) just like you would for
  145.    any program.
  146.  
  147. 5. Double-click on the WavSorter icon to start WavSorter.
  148.  
  149.  
  150. UN-INSTALL
  151.  
  152. I hope you will like using WavSorter, but if you decide to
  153. remove it from your computer, do the following:
  154.  
  155. 1. Delete all the files from your WavSorter directory.
  156.  
  157. 2. Remove (delete) your WavSorter directory.
  158.  
  159. 3. Using a text editor, such as Notepad, open win.ini and
  160.    remove the following lines, which will probably be near
  161.    the end of the file:
  162.  
  163.     [ShepherdSoftware]
  164.     WSConfigName=default.ini
  165.  
  166. 4. Delete the following files from your Windows "system"
  167.    directory:
  168.  
  169.     cmdialog.vbx
  170.     mci.vbx
  171.     threed.vbx
  172.  
  173. **Note: Do not delete these .vbx files if you have MicroSoft
  174.   Visual Basic 2.0, Standard or Professional editions since
  175.   you need these files for yourself. Also, do not delete
  176.   these files if they are needed by another Visual Basic
  177.   application. I know this is probably self-evident but it's
  178.   easy to make mistakes in the heat of the moment.
